The Invincible comics reveal why Mark’s clothes were melting in Episode 8

Mark and his melting suit in Invincible Season 3 Episode 8

You may have spotted an unsettling detail at the end of Invincible Season 3 Episode 8: as Mark and Eve lay in bed, his clothes appeared to be melting. According to the comics, there’s a jaw-dropping reason.

Have you recovered from the Invincible finale yet? Between Oliver nearly being stretched apart, Eve dying and resurrecting herself, and the brutality of the Invincible vs Conquest fight, I wouldn’t blame you if you needed to take a breather.

However, it’s time to look ahead. Damien Darkblood just returned, and given Season 3 ends on Issue #65 of the comics, I have a pretty good idea of where Invincible Season 4 may be going.

That includes an explanation for Mark’s clothes melting at the end of Invincible Season 3. Don’t worry, it’s nothing bad, but it is a major development (huge spoiler ahead).

Why Mark’s clothes melted at the end of Invincible Season 3

Based on what happens in the comics, there are two reasons why Mark’s clothes melted in the Invincible finale: Eve’s powers are playing up after she bypassed her mental blockers against Conquest… and she may already be pregnant!

In Issue #65, Mark mentions to Oliver that he’s noticed something wrong with Eve’s powers. “She tries to make something – and it doesn’t work. I don’t really know how to explain it.

“She seems fine. It’s just her powers – at least, that’s how it seems now. From what I hear, she had to rebuild herself. I wouldn’t trust myself to do that without messing something up.”

Fast-forward to Issue #68, Eve joins Mark on an Invincible Inc. assignment. He asks if she’s okay to fly, and she says, “I wouldn’t be flying so high if you weren’t right here. I don’t know, they haven’t acted up in a few days, maybe that’s over.”

Eve's pregnancy reveal in Issue 68 of the Invincible comics

At the end of the issue, there’s a big reveal: Eve is pregnant. It’s unclear if that’s what’s been messing with her powers the whole time, but it’s likely due to a combination of her miraculous, super-powered recovery and being pregnant.

In Issue #69, she tries to use her powers against Universa (don’t ask), but they temporarily stop working, so it certainly seems like her abilities are affected by her pregnancy.

I’m not going to go into any other details (mainly as it leads to some pretty huge moments in the story), but there you go – if the show sticks to the comics, that’s why his clothes were melting.
