New Netflix movies to stream in September 2025

Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fode in The Wrong Paris

From one of the year’s most underrated animated films to a smattering of classics you need to see, Netflix has plenty of great new movies to watch in September 2025.

Trying to find something to watch on Netflix can be exhausting. Not because there’s nothing there, but the complete opposite: there’s too much choice.

For every new movie added to the streaming service, at least five old flicks are being brought onto streaming for the first time or returning from the depths. We’ve all been there: staring blankly at your screen, looking at the endless list of options.

Luckily, we’ve made a nifty list of every single movie being added to Netflix across September, including brand-new releases. And once you’ve taken a look here, why not head over to our list of new TV shows to see what’s coming to the small screen?

Since there are so many movies coming to Netflix in September, we’ve picked out some of the best the platform has to offer out of all the new releases and older additions.

Dog Man

The cast of Dog Man
  • Genre: Kids animation
  • Release date: TBC
  • Cast: Peter Hastings, Pete Davidson, Billy Boyd, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Root
  • Director: Peter Hastings
  • How long is it? 1 hour 29 minutes

Nearly 10 years after Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie hit cinemas, the franchise has delivered another banger: Dog Man, directed by Peter Hastings (who also voices the titular character).

Not that the story matters that much (a police officer and his dog get injured in the line of duty, so they’re fused together… it’s not as grim as it sounds), but this is solid, heartwarming fare for kids that’s far from insufferable for the parents in the room. You may even let out a chuckle or three.

Ruth & Boaz

The stars of Netfix's Ruth and Boaz
  • Genre: Romance/religious
  • Release date: September 26
  • Cast: Serayah, Tyler Lepley, Phylicia Rashad, Walnette Santiago
  • Director: Alanna Brown
  • How long is it? TBC

A Biblical retelling of the Ruth and Boaz story produced by Tyler Perry may not be at the top of everyone’s must-watch list, but if you’re on the hunt for some faith-based goodness in lieu of The Chosen, this could be just the ticket.

It’s an adaptation of “one of the most iconic love stories in the Bible”, according to Netflix. “Set in Tennessee, it tells the story of a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman, and in the process finds the love of her life and gains the mother she never had,” the synopsis reads.

Idiocracy

Terry Crews and Luke Wilson in Idiocracy
  • Genre: Comedy
  • Release date: September 28
  • Cast: Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard, Terry Crews
  • Director: Mike Judge
  • How long is it? 1 hour 24 minutes

Idiocracy has become one of the most hilariously (and depressingly) prescient comedies of the 21st century. Directed by Mike Judge (Office Space, King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead) and originally released in 2006, it follows a librarian and a prostitute who are selected for a government hibernation experiment. They wake up 500 years later, and what seemed like a proposterous caricature will now seem pretty real.

To borrow a line, “welcome to Netflix, I love you.”

The Wrong Paris

Miranda Cosgrove and Pierson Fode in The Wrong Paris
  • Genre: Romantic comedy
  • Release date: September 12
  • Cast: Miranda Cosgrove, Pierson Fodé, Madison Pettis, Madeline Arthur
  • Director: Janeen Damian
  • How long is it? 1 hour 48 minutes

Do you like Hallmark movies, Ransom Canyon, and Emily in Paris? The Wrong Paris may be the perfect movie for you this September.

“A young woman (Miranda Cosgrove) joins a dating show thinking it’s in Paris, France, but it’s actually in Paris, Texas,” the synopsis reads.

“She plots a way to get eliminated until her unexpected feelings for the bachelor (Pierson Fodé) complicate her plans.”

Limitless

Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro in Limitless
  • Genre: Thriller
  • Release date: September 1
  • Cast: Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Abbie Cornish
  • Director: Neil Burger
  • How long is it? 1 hour 45 minutes

Have you ever stared blankly at your screen, desperate for motivation, only to fall back on quick hits of dopamine, whether it’s scrolling on TikTok, a beer, or procrastinating in some other way?

Limitless is the ultimate wish fulfillment for the doomed slackers among us – and those who wanted to become comically intelligent. Bradley Cooper is operating in peak movie star mode here, going toe to toe with a game De Niro and leading one of the most unexpectedly iconic movies of the 2010s.
