One Piece Season 2 release window, new clips & everything we know

Netflix's One Piece

Okay, it might not be coming out as quickly as we’d have hoped, but One Piece Season 2 does have a brand-new exclusive that fans are going to love.

Get ready to sail the four seas because Netflix’s One Piece is soon to hit the Grand Line, with more characters, and fresh stories. Season 1 of the binge-worthy TV show landed on Netflix in 2023, and Season 2 wrapped filming at the end of 2024.

However, there’s a downside. While we’re definitely set to see Stranger Things Season 5, Wednesday Season 2, and Squid Game Season 3 in 2025, the same can’t be said for the anime adaptation.

While we wait, let’s look at what’s ahead for the One Piece cast and characters, including details of the many actors who have joined the ensemble.

One Piece Season 2 release window

One Piece Season 2 will be released in 2026. It started filming in June 2024.

The release window was announced after Netflix confirmed the series’ renewal in 2023, but has since been delayed. The reason for this is not known.

Critical responses to Season 1 were also positive, with our One Piece review giving the show 4 stars, “While many anime live-action adaptations often feel like soulless recreations, One Piece at least seems like it’s trying to create something new out of what has come before, and it’s doing so with a passion just as infectious as Luffy’s.”

In an interview with Deadline shortly after filming began, Tomorrow Studios President Becky Clements provided an update on the filming schedule for season 2, claiming that the team is still “a long time out” from wrapping.

“July and August are the tougher months, and we adjusted our schedule so that most of our exterior stuff would shoot closer to the end of the year, summer. This is a very VFX-heavy year, so it’s going to be a while. We are a long time out. We film into December.”

The studio looks to be on track for One Piece Season 2’s 2026 release window and with filming all wrapped up, promotional material and trailers shouldn’t be too far away.

One Piece Season 2 plot

According to the showrunner, One Piece season 2 will follow the Straw Hats as they enter the Grand Line and conflict with the Baroque Works criminals, with the main theme surrounding “the challenge of leadership.”

The live-action cast of One Piece on Netflix

“From Luffy’s perspective, he’s got his crew now, and they are setting out to the Grand Line. They’re doing the thing, and there are a lot of challenges that come with that responsibility. And that theme ties into some other stories and characters that I won’t give away just yet. But the challenge and leadership is a big theme for us in Season 2,” Showrunner Matt Owens added to Deadline.

Smoker was teased at the end of Season 1, with Owens confirming he’ll be integral to what we see next. “That character in the end is a very important character moving into our next season, and as Garp says to [Luffy] as well, you’re on your own. While Garp may have been the Marine who was testing Luffy, not every Marine is going to give him any leeway because of who his grandfather might be. And so we’re going to see this very powerful, very driven marine as a major antagonist moving forward in the story.”

The new co-showrunner, Joe Tracz, also added, “It’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line.” Tracz also promised the adventures would get “even grander.”

There’s plenty of future material for the show to cover, so if the next chapter does well, expect a lot more.
