The 2025 Oscars were… interesting… depending on who you were rooting for. While there was no outright drama with the winners, the ceremony’s In Memoriam tribute has come under fire.
Sean Baker’s Anora swept the board at the Academy Awards this year, meaning he now has more gongs than either Martin Scorsese or Stanley Kubrick. While this might not have been to everybody’s tastes (Demi Moore was robbed, if you ask me), none of our A-listers’ feathers were too ruffled.
Unlike previous years of the Will Smith slap or infamous Oscars streaker, the ceremony was drama-free… for those in attendance. For viewers sitting at home, however, it was a different story.
The In Memoriam section came under fire from fans for multiple reasons – the lack of extended David Lynch tribute, for one – and five well-known faces were left out altogether.
These five people were left out of the Oscars 2025 In Memoriam
Alain Delon, Olivia Hussey, Tony Todd, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Shannon Doherty were all missing from the 2025 Oscars In Memoriam tribute – and it’s safe to say fans aren’t pleased.

All five of these names are known for their decades-worth of acting roles, with news of Michelle Trachtenberg‘s death made public just last week. It could be argued this was too short notice to be included in anything already finalized, but that doesn’t account for our other four missing names.
“Wait so the In Memoriam segment missed Alain Delon, Olivia Hussey, Tony Todd, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Shannon Doherty too? What is going on?” one fan posted on X/Twitter.

A second agreed: “How do you have glaring omissions for a f**king memoriam?” while a third weighed in: “Honestly everything about the In Memoriam was confusingly bad. Terrible music, no extended time dedicated to Lynch, and then also just leaving people out? Like how do you miss Michelle Trachtenberg that just happened…”
While there’s no doubting the Oscars missed some obvious names, it hasn’t been the only ceremony this season to do so. “Neither BAFTA nor The Academy included Tony Todd in their In Memoriam. Livid doesn’t cover it. Rest in peace, king,” another fan complained.
But is there a solution? One fan reasoned: “If the Academy wants the show to be shorter, one of the easiest things they could do would be to kill the In Memoriam. It’s never done well and it always leaves people out.”
Another mused: “In Memoriam is too brief really, for a life’s work. It’s a Catch 22 when you’re keeping to schedule. No real answer to it.”
The Academy has not made an official statement on any complaints or omissions.
