Pacific Rim TV series greenlit: Everything we know

A new Pacific Rim TV series is officially in the works, and while it’s early days yet, we’ve got the full rundown on everything there is to know.

The tale of Jaegers vs. Kaijus captivated audiences throughout the 2010s. Pacific Rim burst into theaters in 2013, smashing the box office as one of the biggest new IPs in years.

In the following years, we saw a not-so-fantastic sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and an anime series on Netflix that spanned two seasons.

That’s about to change, however, as a new live-action TV series has been given the green light. Here’s what fans can expect when Pacific Rim comes crashing back onto the silver screen in the near future.

Is there a release date yet?

No, the upcoming Pacific Rim series does not have a release date yet, nor a rough release window. Given it’s still early in production, it could very well be a few years before we see anything from this one.

We’re willing to bet it’ll be available either in late 2026 or early 2027 if development remains on track.

Where will it be streaming?

As Variety reported on April 17, 2025, Amazon has picked up the rights to the new Pacific Rim series. Thus, the show will stream exclusively on Prime Video as and when it’s ready.

The new Pacific Rim series could reveal the origins of not only the Kaiju, but the Jaegers too.

What is the Pacific Rim TV show about?

According to Variety’s sources, the Pacific Rim series will serve as a prequel to the films. There’s no quite telling how many years in advance it may be, but we know to expect an “origin story” of sorts.

Related

In the first film, ‘The ‘Breach’ was discovered in 2013 as Kaijus emerged from the Pacific Ocean and began wreaking havoc. There’s every chance the new show focuses on this period, as in the first film, we jumped right ahead to 2025, and in the sequel, Uprising, we got a glimpse at the world in 2035.

As such, a prequel set around the emergence of the monsters could focus on an entirely new group of characters, ranging from politicians to the first batch of Jaeger engineers and pilots. Possibilities are wide open.

Do we know the cast and crew?

No cast members have been announced for the Pacific Rim TV show at the time of writing. What we do know for now is that Academy Award-nominated writer Eric Heisserer is set to lead the charge as both writer and executive producer.

Heisserer was nominated back in 2017 with his adapted screenplay for Arrival. Horror fans may know of his work on Bird Box and 2010’s Nightmare on Elm Street.

Beyond that, we have little to go off for the time being, but it’d be safe not to expect any original cast members to return given the fact it’s a prequel.

Is there a trailer?

No, as filming isn’t underway yet, it’s far too early for there to be a trailer. In the meantime, we’ve embedded the original film’s trailer below so you can get nostalgic.

That’s all we know about the Pacific Rim TV series for now but rest assured, we’ll update you here with all further details as new information comes to light.
