Love triangles, underhanded land hogging, and death by dangerous driving – it’s all just another day in Ransom Canyon. The new Netflix series is already popular, but will Ransom Canyon Season 2 happen?
If the streaming service knows how to do anything well, it’s a soap opera. Original shows like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias have paved the way, with more arrivals like Chesapeake Shores and Heartland joining our feeds by the day.
Now, Ransom Canyon is adding its name to the hat – the cowboy hat, that is. Taking place in the ranchland of Texas, legacy ranchers risk having their land bought up by an encroaching corporation, all while trying to uncover a year-old death and many unrequited crushes.
It’s addictive viewing, and fans have likely raced through Season 1’s 10 episodes already. But is Ransom Canyon Season 2 actually a possibility?
Ransom Canyon Season 2 is already being worked on
While Ransom Canyon Season 2 hasn’t been officially renewed by Netflix, both cast and crew have confirmed another season is already in development.

Showrunner April Blair told Deadline writers are “in the room on Season 2,” with actor Jack Schumacher also confirming new episodes are being “cooked up.”
Speaking to Dexerto, Schumacher explained, “I’ve got to be careful with my words, because I do know a few things that are getting cooked up [for Season 2].
“Obviously, Yancy has got to continue to confront the mistakes of his past, which keep showing up. In the midst of that, the challenge is, ‘How do I show that I have changed? How do I make this love that I’ve found work before it’s ruined? Before people give up on me?’”
No storylines or potential angles have been revealed yet, and likely won’t be unless Season 2 actually becomes official.
“My favorite feeling is when a show ends, and you don’t want it to end, and you just want more,” Blair added to Tudum. “It makes you feel warm and familiar, and you don’t want to let go. That is how I hope people feel. It’s how I feel about the show watching it.”

There’s another reason why Ransom Canyon Season 2 will happen
Ransom Canyon is based on the 10-book series by Jodi Thomas. As showrunners have confirmed, Season 1 only adapts the first book, meaning there’s still nine more ripe for the picking.

“We only used the first book, and it’s really the foundation of the series, a very important one, and we have retained, a lot of easter eggs for fans of the book series, but we definitely made it our own,” Blair said to Deadline.
“In Jodi’s series, each novel introduces a whole new cast of characters. It’s almost kind of anthology like, and some characters reappear from time to time, but it really is like a whole new group of people. That wasn’t really an achievable thing for us in series. We wanted to stick with one cast, so we stuck to the single book as this jumping off point.”
In line with Virgin River’s style, it’s a safe bet to assume Ransom Canyon won’t be adapted perfectly from the books. However, it means there’s more than enough material to justify a second season and beyond, even if specific plot points aren’t actually used.
When will Ransom Canyon Season 2 be released?
Based on Season 1’s release strategy, we could see new episodes hit Netflix as early as fall 2026 if Ransom Canyon Season 2 does get confirmed.

The first season of Ransom Canyon was filmed between February and June 2024, before premiering on Netflix in April 2025.
This means there’s currently a 15-month window from start to finish for a series to air. If Season were to follow the same format, we’d be looking at a rough release window of fall 2026.
However, this could change if Netflix wants new episodes sooner. If the streamer knows there’s a demand for a second season, the production schedule could be sped up (e.g. Virgin River turns around one season per year).
Season 2 cast predictions
Judging by the Season 1 ending, all main cast members of Ransom Canyon should be coming back for a potential second season, with the exception of Cap Fuller (James Brolin).

The cast will include:
- Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland
- Minka Kelly as Quinn O’Grady
- Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman
- Eoin Macken as Davis Collins
- Marianly Tejada as Ellie Catawnee
- Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey
- Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell
- Andrew Liner as Reid Collins
- Tatanka Means as Jake Longbow
- Jaren K Robledo as Jack Yellowbird
- Casey W Johnson as Kit Russell
- Jennifer Ens as Ashley
- Brett Cullen as Senator Samuel “Sam” Kirkland
- Kate Burton as Katherine Bullock
- Niko Guardado as Tim O’Grady
- Philip Winchester as Sheriff Dan Brigman
- Justin Johnson Cortez as Kai
- Kenneth Miller as Freddie
However, there is a way Cap could return for new episodes – if Season 2 chose to use flashback scenes. It’s something we’ve already seen throughout Season 1, and it seems likely given the unexplored family history between Cap and Yancy.
We could also see the same strategy to further Staten’s backstory with son Randall and his late wife.
Will there be new cast members?
New cast members for a second season seem incredibly likely – mostly because we’re about to be introduced to Yancy’s secret wife. Fans haven’t seen her face yet, meaning she could be played by anyone.

“A fun tidbit nobody knows is that the girl who played the back of her head was actually the star of my very first show, Jane by Design which was on ABC Family at the time,” Blair explained.
“That was Erica Dasher, and she was just there to visit and I said, ‘Will you, will you be the back of his wife’s head? And she’s like, ‘I will if you let me audition for her.’
“So we don’t know [who will play her] yet. Obviously it’ll be a brunette, but it’s a fun, now that we’re in the room on Season 2, it’s a very fun character that’s shaping up and a very juicy backstory.”
Ransom Canyon Season 2 plot theories
Obviously, there are three main storylines Ransom Canyon Season 2 would need to explore further – Yancy’s real wife, whether Quinn and Staten actually get together, and what happens to the three main ranches.

Let’s start with the most scandalous. One of the final scenes in Ransom Canyon Episode 10 shows Ellie being approached by an unknown woman. We never see her face, but she tells Ellie she’s looking for Yancy. When Ellie asks why, the woman says she’s Yancy’s wife… and that’s all we find out.
It’s important to point out that while we learn Yancy isn’t his real name, we never find out what it really is. Our secret woman surely knows the truth – and hopefully we’ll find out ourselves in a second season.
Elsewhere, Quinn has no idea how she’s going to come up with the money for her bar investment. She makes Ellie a partner to help out, but ultimately decides to return to her first calling of being a classically trained pianist. Quinn has been poached for shows in New York since the season began, telling Staten she’s going to leave town to take the job for the greater good.

Instead of being supportive, Staten flies into a fit of rage. He claims it was always Quinn’s plan to leave him behind instead of being invested in building a life with him in Ransom. Obviously this isn’t true, but he won’t hear any differently. The two head their separate ways on bad terms, with Staten seen cutting off the bracelets Quinn made for them both.
Then there’s Staten, Davis, and Sam. With Yancy on his side, Staten doubles down on not selling his land, intent on keeping it in the family. However, Staten’s dad Sam (Brett Cullen) has the opposite opinion.
The most publicly involved with our water company aside from Davis and his ex-wife, Sam is furious with Staten’s intentions. He claims the board of trustees (basically all of the cousins in the family) don’t trust him, but the real problem lies underneath.
He’s bitter Staten was left the ranch by his grandpa, skipping over Sam altogether. Sam feels as though he is the rightful heir to the ranch, and will do whatever it takes to get it back.
Of course, help comes in the form of Davis. In an unrelated conversation, Davis asks Staten to punch him to help a situation against someone else, to which Staten is only too happy to oblige. Sent off with a black eye, this is used in the plot against Staten instead. Sam and Davis are seen in a truck together, with Sam telling the board of trustees he knows a way to prove Staten is unreliable to run the ranch, looking over at Davis.
