Apple TV+A Severance fan theory predicts a major role for Dylan’s wife in future episodes, with Gretchen becoming key to Innie’s getting what they want.
Severance Season 1 was all about Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan’s Innies trying to escape from Lumon Industries and make contact with the outside world.
They briefly achieved that goal in the final episode by enacting the Overtime Contingency, but success was brief and lasted as long as Dylan could hold out his arms.
Severance Season 2 has put the characters back to square one, with Mark’s Outie becoming so obsessed with contacting his Innie that he tries to burn information into his retinas, and even attempts the potentially deadly reintegration process. But the solution might be much simpler, and staring one character in the face.
Innies and Outies can communicate via Gretchen
Apple TV+To effectively sedate Dylan, Mr. Milchick gives Dylan access to what his heart desires, which is access to his wife. At the “Visitation Wing,” Innie Dylan shares tender moments with Outie Gretchen, meaning the Innies now have the access they are after.
One Severance fan posted to Reddit, “I’ve been thinking his wife may be the key to communications between the Innies and the Outies,” with another responding, “You might be onto something there.”
But this being Severance, it isn’t that simple. Milchick is stomping out the rebellion by dividing and conquering its participants. With Dylan, that involves giving him what he wants but making him keep it secret.
So Dylan hasn’t told Mark that he has a direct line to the outside world for fear of losing his visitation rights, which makes sense as he’s clearly falling in love with Outie Gretchen.

It’s a smart move by Milchick to keep Dylan in his place. But should he let slip what’s really going on – and be persuaded to jeopardize his new situation – Innies could potentially get messages to their Outies via Gretchen.
This could change the game for the Innies, and make Dylan’s wife crucial to alerting the outside world about the pain and suffering within Lumon’s walls.
