This may be the main villain in Spider-Man 4 and fans are already disappointed

Spider-Man holding his head

The main villain in Spider-Man 4 has reportedly been revealed – and going by fans’ reactions, it isn’t someone they expected, nor a villain they wanted.

To be fair, it’d be hard to top Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had a multiversal roster of the wallcrawler’s most iconic and beloved antagonists (yes, even Jamie Foxx’s Electro). Notably, it brought back Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin.

Who’s left? Well, with conflicting reports about whether or not Tom Holland’s fourth film will involve the multiverse or be a more street-level adventure, anyone could be eligible: Kingpin, Scorpion, Black Cat, or even Venom (or Knull… but that seems unlikely).

Now, a new report has seemingly revealed the film’s villain – and it’s someone we’ve seen recently (sort of).

The Chameleon may be the villain in Spider-Man 4

According to a report by Jeff Sneider, the Chameleon will be the villain in Spider-Man 4. However, he may not be referred to as the Chameleon, because Fred Hechinger portrayed the same character in Kraven the Hunter.

For those unaware, the Chameleon’s real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov. Born in Soviet Russia and later moving to the US, he developed a knack for impersonating people, eventually using lifelike masks, holographic technology, and other enhancements to assume the appearance of pretty much anyone.

After his brother Sergei – aka Kraven – came to the US, they both set their sights on Spider-Man. However, the Chameleon has fought other Marvel heroes; namely, Daredevil, Iron Man, and Ant-Man.

So, why are fans so disappointed? Well, given his appearance in Kraven the Hunter – a movie that bombed with critics and viewers alike – the idea of seeing the Chameleon again isn’t particularly exciting, and fans want to see other villains in the sequel.

“That’s some dumbass bullsh*t, I hope it’s not true,” one user wrote. “Honestly, Spidey needs another ground level villain man. I’m getting tired of the multiverse,” another posted.

“Wow, the first time I am not excited for a Spider-Man movie,” a third tweeted. “I mean Chameleon is cool & all, but is @MarvelStudios not gonna do anything with that Mac Gargan post-credit scene in Homecoming? C’mon now, homie’s sitting right there,” another wrote.

Take this with a grain of salt. That’s not to say Sneider isn’t a reliable source, but there have been multiple reports about different villains in Holland’s next movie, so keep your eye out for any official updates.
