Spider-Man: Brand New Day report hints at Green Goblin plans & mysterious “exchange”

Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still ongoing, and according to a new report, Marvel had to “exchange” something to pull off what they want to do.

Once upon a time, Spider-Man wasn’t part of the MCU. As the franchise built towards The Avengers, Andrew Garfield’s webhead was off fighting Lizard and Electro. In 2015, Marvel and Sony finally reached an agreement that’d allow the character to join the series.

There have been some bumps along the way since then; for example, in 2019, the two studios announced their “divorce”, and it wasn’t until Holland stepped in to talk to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony chief Tom Rothman that they found a way forward.

Now, Brand New Day is set to be unlike any Spider-Man movie we’ve seen before. It’s a long-demanded street-level adventure that’ll feature the big-screen debut of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and the return of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. The question is, has it come at a cost?

Marvel ‘gave something’ to Sony for Spider-Man: Brand New Day

As per a new Cosmic Circus Q&A, Sony requested something “in exchange” for what Marvel wanted to do with Brand New Day. As for what that is, insider Alex Perez replied with a black heart emoji.

What could that mean? Could it be that Sony gets to produce a Black Cat feature film or project, or maybe we’ll see a link between Beyond the Spider-Verse and the events in the MCU?

Perhaps it has something to do with the symbiote; what if the MCU never acknowledges the one left behind in Venom: The Last Dance, but Sony gets to orient projects around it that technically unfold in the MCU?

It all remains to be seen, but the report included some other exciting teases. Perez said it’s “eventually” the plan for Holland’s Spider-Man to face off against Earth 616’s Norman Osborn (in other words, not Willem Dafoe), and the actor has seemingly already spoiled the film’s main villain.

“It’s simpler, meaner, badder,” Perez added. There’s every chance they’re referring to the Hulk, who’s said to be “scarier than ever before, he might even kill someone.”

As for Beyond the Spider-Verse, Perez dropped a cryptic clue: “And I would walk five hundred miles. And I would walk five hundred more. Just to be the man who walked a thousand Miles to fall down at your door.”
