Two major Super Mario Galaxy Movie characters ‘leak’ and fans are freaking out

Let’s a-go! The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to cinemas next year, and according to new leaks, it may feature two major new characters.

The Mario franchise is an embarrassment of riches, and you could say this about several titles, but Super Mario Galaxy really is one of the best games of all time. Watch any reaction video to the film announcement, and it’s clear how beloved it is among fans.

While it’d be silly to call The Super Mario Bros Movie’s success unprecedented (an animated movie made by Illumination based on one of the most popular franchises in gaming history was obviously going to do well), it became one of the highest-grossing movies ever made.

It also included a couple of Galaxy teases, so it makes sense that the sequel will be an adaptation of both the 2007 game and its similarly cherished follow-up. Naturally, fans already have loads of questions about who (and where) will appear.

Bowser Jr and Wario ‘leaked’ for Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Now, take this with a big pinch of salt. The first leak comes from Cinépolis El Salvador, which posted this synopsis for the movie: “New threats, old rivalries, and a battle that reaches the stars. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi join forces against Wario and Bowser Jr.”

Given the first film’s post-credits tease, everybody was already expecting to see Yoshi. However, Nintendo has yet to confirm any of the expanded cast, so Wario and Bowser Jr’s names have caught people’s eyes.

This has been bolstered by an image of a Bowser Jr toy, reportedly a prototype developed by JAKKS Pacific, a company that’s made several toys for the franchise (and, crucially, the previous movie). You can still find the image if you look hard enough, but it’s been copyright-struck and taken down across several social media platforms.

Here’s the thing: it’ll be cool if Bowser Jr is in the movie, but it wouldn’t be shocking. He’s in the original game, and he even gets his own boss fight, so it’d make sense for him to show up.

Wario is way more interesting, considering he wasn’t in either of the Galaxy games, and as someone who’s played them, it’s hard to place him anywhere in the story.

“I think it would be a weird choice to have Wario as a part of a Galaxy adaptation but then it was also a weird choice to have Donkey Kong as part of a Super Mario Bros adaptation, so I feel like anything can happen,” one user commented on Reddit.

“My money’s on end credits cameo,” another speculated, and a third wrote: “Wario and Waluigi could show up in a post-credit scene, finding ‘6 Golden Coins’ in the Castle’s vault.”

Either way, fans are still excited. “If Bowser Jr is in the Galaxy movie immediate 5 stars, idgaf if the plot is trash, that’s my boy automatically. Peak cinema,” one user wrote.

“If Bowser Jr is going to be in the Mario Galaxy fr I will be the happiest person in the world,” another wrote.
