The DCU’s Supergirl movie is based on one of the most acclaimed comics of the past five years, but don’t expect it to be a one-to-one adaptation – especially when it comes to the villain.
Milly Alcock made her debut as Kara, Kal-El’s Kryptonian cousin, in the closing scenes of Superman. In Gunn’s words, she’s a “total mess” who’s had a “much more difficult background” (let’s just say, she didn’t grow up on a peaceful farm with her Ma and Pa).
The new DC film, directed by Craig Gillespie, will adapt Tom King’s Woman of Tomorrow. The original comic follows Supergirl as she accompanies a young girl across the universe on a quest for revenge. That’s about as much as you should know before we get into spoiler territory.
That said, if you don’t mind finding out more about the movie’s antagonist, keep reading. Mild spoilers ahead…
Supergirl rumored to change Krem from Woman of Tomorrow

We know that Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast as Krem of the Yellow Hills, the main villain in Supergirl. If the film follows the comic, he’ll have a very close connection to the young girl Supergirl finds, and they both have a stake in their “murderous quest for revenge” (as per the logline).
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Krem may not look like you’d expect, especially if you’ve read Woman of Tomorrow. “In the Supergirl movie, Krem is different than he is in the comics,” he wrote on X/Twitter.
“He looks more like a monster and carries dead alien rats with him to eat.”
Bilquis Evely’s illustrations of Krem aren’t monstrous at all. He’s ginger-bearded, muscly, and often topless, and while he comes from a world that orbits a red star, he looks human.

This would be an unexpected change, and as other fans have pointed out, the description of a “monster who carries dead alien rats” sounds a lot like the alien Peacemaker encountered in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber in Season 2.
“Huh. Reminds me of that creature in Peacemaker who never said hi back to Chris,” one Redditor noted, and another speculated: “Lol yup it’s the setup!”
There seems to be a consensus among fans: Krem doesn’t have many distinctive features in the comic, so it could benefit the character.
“Even as a ‘realistic, grounded type of violent, opportunistic mercenary’, he was kind of vanilla,” one user wrote. “Honestly it’s great if he’s scarier cause the comic version was kinda lame,” another wrote.
“I liked Woman of Tomorrow, but Krem was such a nothing character. Just a sh*tty dude with nothing else, so I am not opposed to the movie making him a bit weirder,” a third commented.
