Temptation Island has landed on Netflix but it’s not what you think

A little buzz of excitement may have rippled through you at the announcement that Temptation Island is heading to Netflix, but you should know something before you dive in.

Netflix has continued to expand its reality TV category over the years, creating some undeniable classics in the genre like Love is Blind, Single’s Inferno, and Selling Sunset

However, the streaming service also breathed new life into old formulas, reviving shows like The Mole and offering fresh takes on competition series such as The Circle.

Now, one of the hottest dating shows has made its debut on Netflix, but it might not be the version you were expecting.

Netflix dropped 10 new episodes of a brand new season of Temptation Island on March 12. However, it’s worth noting that this is the US version of the reality series, and has nothing to do with the viral Spanish edition.

Last month, Spain’s Temptation Island, La Isla de las Tentaciones, blew up on social media thanks to an “insane” clip in which contestant José Carlos Montoya flew into a fit of rage after seeing his girlfriend Anita Williams hook up with another man.

Despite widespread interest in the show, there’s no English translation and the only way to watch it is using a VPN to access the Telecinco website.

It’s one of many international versions of Temptation Island, which originally started in America back in 2001 on Fox and ran for three seasons. The show was later revived, airing a new chapter on USA Network in 2019.

Now, it’s made a move to Netflix, with the new season available to stream in its entirety. It follows the same premise, with four couples testing their relationships by shacking up with eligible singles on a tropical island.

In other words, expect plenty of drama (although maybe not quite as much as the Spanish edition). The new Netflix series is hosted by Mark L. Walberg, who was the original presenter on the debut season in 2001.

Although there’s plenty to enjoy, that hasn’t stopped calls for the Spanish sensation to find an English home. “They need to dub that Spanish Temptation island to English and put it on Netflix,” wrote one on X/Twitter.

“I literally need Spanish Temptation Island on Netflix please and thank you,” said another, while a third added, “TL had me searching Netflix looking for that Spanish Temptation Island.”

For others, it appears the viral moment worked in the US version’s favor. “American Temptation Island! I’ve never watched but Montoya got me intrigued,” wrote one.
