The Hunting Wives creator reveals exciting Season 2 plans with “time jump”

The Hunting Wives’ cliffhanger ending perfectly sets up Season 2. While we wait to hear if the show will return to Netflix, creator Rebecca Cutter has shared some exciting updates on what to expect – including a time jump.

In the era of streaming, we have access to more TV than ever before, with different shows serving different purposes. Severance, for instance, is an experience that demands your attention; the kind of series you watch in silence, lights out, giving it the same focus you’d give a great novel.

At the opposite end of the scale is The Hunting Wives; trashy, binge-worthy chewing gum for the mind that’s escapism at its finest. As Cutter herself told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s anti-prestige.”

Based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, the new TV show isn’t a Netflix original, but the streaming service bought the year-long licensing rights for the US. Since releasing in July, it’s gone on to become a mega-hit, with attention turning to a potential Season 2.

Although The Hunting Wives Season 2 hasn’t been confirmed just yet, if (or should we say when) it does, Cutter has plans. When THR asked her whether or not a second season would pick up where the finale left off, she replied, “I think a little time jump.”

“I like there to be a little bit of a new status quo, but you don’t want to miss too much,” she added.

Even though Margo and Sophie started an affair in Season 1, the jaw-dropping ending seemingly sets up a showdown between the pair. Cutter was also asked if this will be the case, to which she said, “You are good at trying to get me to spill!

“I mean, they’re the two leads of the show, of course you’re getting more Sophie and Margo. Just, what does that mean? And where does it end up? I’m not going to tell you! But they will have many scenes together. I can say that.”

In terms of non-spoilery details she can share, Cutter continued, “I love the response to Wanda Salazar, who’s our deputy. She is a very interesting and very fresh character, so I always want to make sure she has plenty to do.

“I definitely think that more trouble will come from the bowels of Alba, Texas, which is Margo and [her brother] Kyle’s hometown. Obviously Jed’s campaign [for governor] brings in another class of people.

“There was also talk of a reality show for Callie and John. So there’s a lot of world building that can be done.”

In short, all of the threads of the Season 1 finale, from the revelation that Margo killed Abby to Sophie’s second fatal drunk driving incident, will be addressed in Season 2 if it goes ahead.

Netflix reportedly in discussions for Season 2

As said, there’s no confirmation just yet, but sources did tell THR that Netflix is already in discussions with The Hunting Wives teams for a second installment.

This should come as no surprise given the runaway success of the first chapter. According to Luminate, it became the most streamed series in the US during its second week with more than two billion minutes viewed.

Its winning streak has continued, with the show still in the Top 10 chart as of September 2025. This is particularly impressive given it’s a) not a Netflix original and b) a US- and streaming-only title.

Plus, Cutter said that the series “was never, in my mind, a limited series,” with plenty more in the pipeline if the production team and Netflix give it the greenlight.

“From what I gather, doing more than three [seasons] is hard, so three is a great number. But I could do it forever. It’s so fun. The girls are so fun. We love it,” she added.
