A trailer for the second season of The Sandman has dropped, but the teaser makes no mention of the character’s creator Neil Gaiman following multiple sexual assault allegations against the writer.
The Sandman Season 1 arrived on Netflix in August 2023, to much critical acclaim, with the show carrying a Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%
An adaptation of the comic book series by Neil Gaiman, the series stars Tom Sturridge as the titular ‘Master of Dreams,’ with the plot following him across different timelines and worlds as he rights the many wrongs of his past.
Thanks to a new trailer, we now know when and how The Sandman Season 2 will stream, but the footage also makes no mention of the man behind it all.
Why The Sandman Season 2 trailer ignores Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman was all over publicity for the first season of Sandman – the trailer proclaimed it the brain-child of “visionary author” Neil Gaiman, while the description underneath reminded viewers that Sandman is “developed and executive produced,” by Gaiman, as well as being “based on the beloved award-winning DC comic series written by Neil Gaiman.”
But the Season 2 trailer makes no mention of the writer, either onscreen during the footage, or in the blurb below.
The reason for his absence is multiple sexual assault allegations made against Gaiman in the ‘Master’ podcast that dropped in July 2024, and a New York magazine article from January 2025. The writer is now being sued for those alleged crimes, so Netflix doubtless want to keep his name away from their show.
Final Sandman season will have a new release schedule

Following those allegations, Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg issued a statement explaining why Season 2 will be the last: “The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season.

“We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”
Thanks to the new trailer, we also now know that the second and final season won’t drop in one block – like Season 1 – but rather be released in two parts, with the six-episode Volume 1 premiering on July 3, 2025, and the five-episode Volume 2 arriving on July 24, 2025.
