Is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 4 happening? Prime Video’s exciting movie reveal

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 finale had us all reaching for the tissues, but now attention has turned to what happens next. Season 4 might not be in the pipeline, but Prime Video just announced some exciting movie news. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Since the very beginning of the hit TV show, the question has always been: who is Belly’s endgame? The books the show is based on left many convinced she’d choose Conrad over Jeremiah, but showrunner and author Jenny Han teased some “surprises”.
With The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 drawing to a close on Wednesday (September 17), we now know that Han wasn’t referring to the love triangle. In the end, Belly chooses Conrad and they finally get their happily ever after.
This brings the story to its natural conclusion, but that doesn’t mean the end of the Prime Video show’s universe.
Is The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 4 happening?
Although The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 4 isn’t going ahead, Prime Video has since confirmed that a feature-length movie will conclude the flagship series.
The news was shared shortly after the release of Season 3 Episode 11, with the streaming service revealing that Jenny Han will direct the new film, as well as co-write the script alongside Sarah Kucserka.
For now, the plot details are being kept under wraps, but Han did tease that there’s “another big milestone” in Belly’s journey that will be included in the movie.
Courtenay Valenti, head of film, streaming, and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, said in a statement, “The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation.

“We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
Han added, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
What will The Summer I Turned Pretty movie be about?

What could this milestone be? We can’t know for sure, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. And there’s one theory that stands above the rest: The Summer I Turned Pretty movie will focus on Belly and Conrad’s wedding.
“PLEASE THE WEDDING,” wrote one on Reddit, while another said, “She’s getting married! We’re getting the letter, the beach scene! Damn it I can’t believe we ungrateful brats doubted Jenny! I bet you we even get a Belly Flop!”
A third added, “I knew it would be a movie. They did a good job building up to BellyConrad, we just needed that epilogue expanded. She’s going to deliver. She knew her book fans deserved that.”
Others have pointed out the little Easter egg in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 end credits. After showing us adorable photos of Belly and Conrad enjoying Christmas in Paris, a note from Han appears.

It reads, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years. Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers.
“We put our whole hearts into this show and we’re so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride. Maybe we’ll meet you again one summer in Cousins. Until then – All of my love always, Jenny.”
Responding to the movie news, one fan wrote, “YASSS! I was waiting for this after I saw the finale because guys it was clearly hinted at the end in Jenny Han’s note.”
Is there a release date?

Details for The Summer I Turned Pretty movie are scarce right now, but given each season took around a year to make (Season 3 took longer due to the Hollywood strikes), we can expect the film to follow a similar time frame.
If it does, we’re looking at a mid-to-late 2026 release date, but this is pure speculation at this stage. It’s safe to say the fans are feeling impatient, with one writing, “I am going to age DECADES waiting for this goddamn movie.”
Another asked, “Do they have to film it? Is it ready yet? When is it coming out? How much do we have to wait?”
“Based on the articles it seems it hasn’t been filmed yet so they’ll be at least a year wait for us to see it, but hopefully Jenny will know based on so much reaction what most fans want and give us a movie focused heavily on Belly/Conrad,” added a third.
A fourth predicted, “I’m betting next year. I mean, it took them four years for three seasons. And that’s like 7-10 episodes per season. A movie is like 2-3 hours long if it even reaches that long. There’s no CGI or expensive effects on tsitp, so it shouldn’t take that long.”
While we wait for updates, The Summer I Turned Pretty Seasons 1-3 are streaming on Prime Video now. You can also check out the new TV shows streaming this month and what’s coming up with our 2025 TV release calendar.
