The Way Home Season 4 could include a heartbreaking new timeline we’ve never seen before

Kat and Del gasping in shock in The Way Home

Yes, I know – I can’t stop talking about The Way Home Season 4. In my defense, neither can you. I’m convinced a timeline that’s already been teased will be the focal point of new episodes.

Before we get to that, let’s assess what we know. Elliot is the baby who was left at the pond, with his mom jumping into the water with a mystery man. He was left a cryptic letter that doesn’t say much of anything, but we know she’s the same woman Alice briefly met in 1974.

Jacob has disappeared again while Sam is slyly letting Del know he isn’t who he says he is. Obviously, we’ve not got a clue who he actually is (yet), but he seems to know more about the pond and the Landrys than he’s letting on.

But there are other less obvious mysteries in the mix too. Grandma Fern made yet another appearance in The Way Home Season 3 finale, setting the scene for what could be to come in Season 4.

1965 could be the next timeline in The Way Home Season 4

Throughout Season 3, 1965 has been hinted at as a year of significance in Landry family history. It’s the year Colton’s older brother disappeared without a trace, and Grandma Fern keeps mentioning it in cryptic ways.

Given that every season has introduced a new historical timeline so far while still visiting the existing ones, it stands to reason that 1965 will be introduced in Season 4.

Fern and Kat in The Way Home Season 3

When Del and Kat traveled back to Del and Colton’s 1975 wedding in the Season 3 finale, Fern approached Kat once again. She explained that Kat liked the nickname Kitty “before.” Confused, Fern says, “If you don’t know when we met before, then it hasn’t happened yet… something to look forward to, I think.” Fern leaves, singing a version of the same ’65 riddle we heard in Episode 3.

But what was that riddle, I hear you ask? “25 first arrived, 25 never tried. 65 thought they died, 65 still alive.” Even seven episodes later, we still don’t know what this means. The fact Fern returned to replant this seed in Kat’s head suggests that’s exactly where we’re heading next.

Obviously, we also need to get to the bottom of what actually happened to Colton’s brother. In the very brief flashbacks we saw of his childhood, we found out Colton didn’t originally enter the pond to find him, but rather save Evelyn from drowning. Fans think they’ve already found Colton’s brother in previous episodes, but this is unconfirmed.

When Colton recounts his time travel using the pond in Episode 9, his childhood self mentions the White Witch. It’s yet another mystery linking to 1965 that needs to be solved (and properly explained), having believed it was Fern when she first told stories. While Fern was seen as a “crazy old woman” in Port Haven, the White Witch could actually be Kat, thanks to the painting made of her in 1814.

Of course, we won’t get any actual answers until The Way Home Season 4 airs in 2026.
