Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a historic Marvel movie, and Tom Holland has been paying very close attention to what fans have been asking for.
Think about it: it’s Holland’s fourth solo movie as Spidey (that’s never happened), it’s the start of a second trilogy with the same actor (again, that’s never happened), and it’ll feature the first big-screen appearance of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the MCU.
It also has big shoes to fill. No Way Home gave audiences three beloved Spider-Men, a rogues’ gallery of iconic cinematic villains, and it became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
There was a brief time when Holland wasn’t sure if he was going to return for Spider-Man 4. Now, filming is well underway on the next film, and he’s taken it upon himself to make sure fans will be happy.
Tom Holland has been doing “sneaky research” for Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Speaking to Esquire, Holland said he wants to “do justice to Peter Parker’s character” in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“I want to bring the fans something that’s really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise. I don’t mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That’s a big ask,” he added.
If there’s been one overriding criticism of Holland’s Spider-Man movies, it’s that they’ve never had the smaller-scale feel of the hero’s earlier films. Homecoming may pit him against the Vulture, but it also stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. Far From Home has Nick Fury and directly follows Avengers: Endgame. No Way Home is a multiverse movie.
Kevin Feige has already promised that Brand New Day will be a street-level story, but Holland has also been keeping an eye on what fans want.

“I did a lot of sneaky research online – looking at what people were saying in the interim between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” he said.
“I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, ‘This is what I think we should be doing.’ And I think that’s exactly what we are doing.
“So, it’s been a really fun process developing the movie. It’s the first time I’ve ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it’s definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we’ve got to, now that we’re shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.”
From Holland’s perspective, he has “such a good understanding of who Peter Parker is, and I have been so lucky that the fan base has been so vocal about what they love from the franchise.”
“We’ve been able to really lean into those things and capitalize on those things. So, I love standing up for the character, being in the room, and making sure that the decisions we make are what’s best for Peter Parker because he really does feel like one of my best friends,” he continued.
“It’s a really weird experience diving into the character again. It just feels like you’re hanging out with an old pal.”
