Is Netflix making a new Tremors series in 2025?

Kevin Bacon in Syfy's canceled Tremors series and the original poster

Rumor has it that Kevin Bacon is returning for a Tremors reboot, with the TV series seemingly releasing on Netflix in 2025 – but is it true?

Old IP is still big business for streaming services; for example, one of Netflix’s most anticipated movies of the year is Happy Gilmore 2, a sequel to a movie that came out nearly 30 years ago.

With so many horror legacy sequels over the past 10 years (Halloween, Scream, Texas Chainsaw, and later this year, I Know What You Did Last Summer), could there be room for Tremors? It’s been 35 years since the original film’s release, which spawned a franchise that hasn’t been seen since 2020’s direct-to-video Tremors: Shrieker Island.

Well, according to a social media post, a Tremors TV series is coming to Netflix… but there’s something you should know.

The truth behind the Tremors Netflix series rumor

Netflix isn’t making a Tremors series with Kevin Bacon, nor is a revival of the franchise in active development.

Unfortunately, you’ve been duped by fake news on Facebook, courtesy of YODA BBY ABY, a page that regularly posts about made-up films and other projects (like Pedro Pascal’s Dead Space series and Dave Bautista’s The Sims movie).

“TREMORS is back in an 8-episode reboot series starring Kevin Bacon, set to premiere on Netflix in August 2025,” the page wrote, which is completely untrue.

“Return to Perfection, Nevada, where the ground shakes with chaos as giant, man-eating worms unleash havoc in the modern day. Expect wild, edge-of-your-seat action and the same crazy thrills that made the original films a cult classic!”

Once again, a Tremors series is not coming to Netflix. However, that’s not to say Bacon won’t reprise his role as Val one day – albeit it could be a few years away.

Stampede Entertainment, the team behind the movie, has reclaimed the rights from Universal and they’ve “been exploring what this may allow us to do.”

“First, we aren’t reading outside ideas. We are discussing a return-to-Perfection sequel, and one or two more outlandish ideas featuring graboids in new settings,” Stampede wrote in a blog post.

“Whatever we decide to pitch to Hollywood, it will not be a remake of the first movie with a new cast. Nor will it be a version of our original script for Tremors 5 (a question that is frequently sent to the Stampede FAQ).

“We are considering ideas that feature the return of Kevin Bacon as Val, but no promises!”

In 2023, Bacon tweeted: “I’m just waiting for the call.” He also included a worm emoji, so it’s clear he was talking about Tremors.

Bear in mind, Bacon returned as Val in a Tremors series that was axed by Syfy before it could even air. So keep your fingers crossed, it may happen one day.
