There’s an easy way to still watch Dexter on Netflix after removal

If you’re in the US and you want to watch Dexter on Netflix, don’t fret: even though the series was removed, you can still stream it with an easy trick.

Dexter is back… well, sort of. After its notorious ending in 2013, the series was revived with New Blood, which picked up 10 years on from the killer hurricane, with Dexter living quietly in a small town in upstate New York.

It was… fine, but it paved the way for two other shows: Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel that’s since been cancelled despite initially securing a renewal earlier in 2025, and Dexter: Resurrection, a sequel to New Blood that’s been acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

With the Dexter: Resurrection finale fast approaching, you may be tempted to revisit the original series (or binge it for the first time). If you have Netflix, you just need one more thing.

All eight seasons of Dexter are available to stream via Netflix UK. So, if you change your location to anywhere in the UK with the help of a VPN, you’ll be able to watch it.

It’s really that easy. If you don’t have a VPN, there are several options; some paid, some free, with varying levels of security and features. If you’re new to this, check out our guide on how to use a VPN for streaming.

Dexter was removed from US Netflix on June 19 this year. The streaming service hasn’t addressed exactly why it was taken off the platform, but the reason is obvious: Dexter was licensed to Netflix by Paramount and Showtime, and they simply didn’t renew their agreement for it to remain in the streamer’s library.

Plus, with Resurrection airing soon after, Showtime probably wanted the exclusive rights to Dexter for Paramount Plus to incentivise sign-ups. If you already have Paramount Plus, you don’t need Netflix to watch Dexter – but if you don’t, and you have Netflix, you should get a VPN.

As for Dexter: Resurrection, you’ll need a Paramount Plus with Showtime subscription, which costs $12.99 per month (and you get a one-week free trial, so if you signed up now, you could watch every episode plus the finale without paying a penny).
