Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 ending explained: Major twist changes everything

Wednesday sitting next to Thing.

Wednesday Season 2 sees the title character trying to save the life of her best friend – here’s how that goes down, plus details of a big twist that changes everything for the Addams Family.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 began with a premonition of Enid dying, a vision that then hangs over all eight episodes.

Wednesday’s efforts to prevent the death of her best friend resulted in the Outcasts at Willow Hill going free, and the return of Tyler Galpin, as well as his murderous Hyde.

The first four episodes of Season 2 ended with Enid’s life still in danger, so here’s how that plays out in the final four instalments, plus how the story sets up Wednesday Season 3. Meaning SPOILERS ahead…

For much of Wednesday Season 2, Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) seems like a harmless fool, trying and failing to bond with his students.

But as proceedings progress, it becomes apparent that he has ulterior motives, and at the start of Episode 7, they become clear – Bary Dort is a con-man.

Via flashback we learn that he set up a cult called Morning Song to separate followers from their money. While in the present, he’s using Bianca’s siren spell to steal Hester Frump’s fortune.

But during a Masked Ball, Wednesday turns the tables on Dort, forcing him to confess in front of the school, before he’s turned to stone and a chandelier falls on him, smashing the corrupt principal into little pieces.

A Night to remember

Slurp = Isaac Night

The main Season 2 mystery ties together Patient 1938 with Slurp, Tyler Gilpin, and a secret from the Addams Family’s past.

To tell the story in chronological order, Isaac Night was a brilliant science student and best friend to Gomez Addams. His sister Francoise was a Hyde, and he used Gomez’s electrical powers to try and save her, knowing that it would kill his bestie.

Morticia stopped Night by cutting off his hand, before Gomez buried Isaac in a grave meant for him. Years later, Night became Pugsley’s pet zombie Slurp during Part 1 of Season 2, before gradually morphing back into Isaac during Part 2.

Meanwhile, the mysterious Patient 1938 is revealed to be Francoise, who is also Tyler Galpin’s mother. That family reunites, and they set about trying to cure Francoise of her Hyde curse, by using Pugsley’s electricity, making him the Addams marked for death.

The big twist explained

It all builds towards a big climax in a crumbling science laboratory, where Francoise explains that it’s too late for her, and the real plan is to save Tyler.

The Addams clan arrives and does battle with the Nights/Galpins, which is when the big reveal happens – Thing is Isaac’s missing hand, with Night an anagram of Thing!

Isaac re-attaches his appendage and starts strangling Wednesday, but Thing fights back, beating Issac up in scenes reminiscent of Ash vs his arm in Evil Dead 2. The hand then pulls out Isaac’s clockwork heart, killing him stone dead.

Meanwhile, Hyde Tyler and Hyde Francoise do battle at the top of a tower, and mom ultimately falls to her death, thereby ending the brief conflict.

How does Season 2 end?

The Addams family lined up.

Wednesday Season 2 ends with Isadora Capri helping Tyler for reasons unknown, and Wednesday and Uncle Fester heading north in search of Enid.

Isadora reveals to Tyler that her father was a Hyde, and offers him a support system for his affliction, claiming that if he’s part of a pack, he’ll form bonds that transcend the need for a single master. But it definitely seems like Capri has nefarious plans for Galpin.

We also get a glimpse at yet another Addams Family secret, with Wednesday having a vision of Aunt Ophelia. Hester is then seen visiting her in a locked basement cell, where Ophelia is busy writing “Wednesday must die” on a wall.

As for Enid, being an Alpha who transformed during a full moon, she’s potentially stuck that way, so she disappears, and is last seen five miles from the Canadian border.

Wednesday won’t let that happen to her best friend, so heads in her direction with Fester, saying: “As I venture into the unknown, I’m determined to exhume every lying deception. Or die trying. Sounds like a perfect vacation to me.”
