When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 10 ending is by far the most heartbreaking scene yet

Lee and Nathan in When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 10Hall

Sometimes life feels like a Hallmark movie and then something catastrophic happens. That’s exactly the case in When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 10 for the character who deserves it the least.

To cast your mind back, Episode 9 saw the departure of non-heiress Ava, along with Hope Valley risking its collective life to get somewhere with the Garrison case. Annoyingly, that just meant putting Sonny back in jail where he belongs.

We’re no closer to finding the gold than we were at the start of When Calls the Heart, but it seems to have something to do with Edie’s late uncle, Ernie. In some ways none of this matters anymore, because there’s a bigger threat in town.

While one romance heats up, tragedy is beginning to strike the most unsuspecting of characters. When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 10 is an emotional rollercoaster, so strap in. Warning: spoilers ahead!

Lucas is sued by McGinty in When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 10

Lucas in When Calls the Heart Season 12

While working on a new class project, Elizabeth asks the quiet Emily to stay behind after class. She offers to help Emily come up with a new idea relating to Henry’s nut business. Nathan turns up to take Elizabeth for lunch, mentioning he’s been promoted to Chief Constable. Elizabeth notices Little Jack fell asleep in class and seems to be running a fever.

Edie visits Lucas, who has received a summons being sued for fraud and misuse of government authority. Edie reveals she no longer represents McGinty, who is clearly behind this. She’s got three days to “satisfy her debt” or the ranch will belong to him. Edie tells Lucas it isn’t any of his concern and she’ll find a way to deal with it. The pair try to figure out how best to respond to the summons.

Lucas shows Lee and Nathan the summons and also shares the news about Edie. Lucas says he won’t “take things lying down” and plans to visit McGinty directly. Nathan offers to go with him to “keep things civil.”

As Rosemary tries to poach Bill for more information on the Garrison gang for the Valley Voice, Inspector Georgie McGill (Little House on the Prairie alum Melissa Gilbert, don’t forget) slams him for breaching protocol by publicly sharing classified information.

At Henry’s, Emily explains how much she’s been helping the business (and community) by coming up with ways to save Henry’s harvest during the difficult winter. They decide this will be her final project, though Emily can’t work out how to connect it to typical school subjects. Minnie, Mei, Mike, and Molly (there’s a mouthful) plan a hazelnut Harvest festival dinner using recipes from their families.

Lucas and Nathan meet McGinty, who threatens Lucas about previously spending time on “the wrong side of the law.” McGinty files a restraining order against Lucas and Edie after Lucas challenges him for making a contract in bad faith. “Neither Mr Bouchard or Miss Martell are to set foot on the Martell ranch after I’ve reclaimed it,” he adds.

This enrages Lucas, while McGinty turns on Nathan by suggesting Allie frequently trespasses on his property. He wants $25 to be paid in fines, saying it’s how Allie drew up her detailed maps. “I’ll expect it within a week. Get off my land.”

Nathan confronts Allie about this, who explains it was for her research with Oliver. He’s not angry, but explains McGinty could cause a lot of trouble. Allie apologizes and offers to pay the fine, leaving. While she goes to pick up her book at the Mercantile, Ned and Florence tell Emily she’s missed the window for college applications.

Oliver finds a solution at the last minute

At the jail, Georgie tells Woody that Sonny is “willing” to take a deal, and has been “forthcoming” about his involvement in the 1907 Train Robbery. Woody claims he was only the lookout, with Bill telling him he’s just confessed to being an accessory to a crime. Georgie says if Woody tells them where the gold is she can make his life easier, but claims Jake died before he got out of prison (meaning he doesn’t know).

Allie tries to change her park-related project at the last minute, claiming it’s causing too many issues for Nathan. She explains what’s happened with McGinty to Elizabeth, who tells her they should talk to Nathan together. Rosemary offers Mike a solo spot in choir while trying to get more Garrison information. She tells Minnie she feels she’s being excluded from her “own investigation” by Bill and Georgie, with Minnie encouraging her to go it alone.

While discussing the McGinty situation with Allie, Nathan, and Elizabeth, Oliver explains McGinty often uses a smaller misdeed to hide a bigger one. He thinks the trees obscuring the pathway they found were actually chopped down and moved from someone else’s land, and he can prove it. How does he know? They’re ash trees, which only grow in Lee Coulter’s property. Oliver reminds everyone the Mountie handbook allows trespassing if it’s in legitimate pursuit of crime.

Rosemary and Bill in When Calls the Heart Season 12

Bill tells Rosemary he wasn’t intentionally trying to shut her out, claiming the Garrisons didn’t know Ernie Martell, as per Woody’s confession. The gold is a work-in-progress, though it’s Lee who Bill has really come for. Bill tells Lee about the trees before Henry and Bill meet McGinty. Bill accuses McGinty of the ash tree blockage, claiming an eyewitness is willing to testify to being blackmailed (Lee).

Bill says the Cattlemen won’t have a problem believing it seeing as McGinty has pulled the same stunt on them. McGinty says Bill won’t touch him, threatening to take the kids down. Lee arrives and says he never gave McGinty access rights, and could theoretically press charges. Instead, Lee says he’ll be good with whatever deal Bill and Henry strike with McGinty.

Bill and Georgie share a shock kiss

Emily tells Elizabeth she’s missed the deadline to apply to teacher’s college. Emily says she isn’t even sure if teaching is for her, she just wants to be like Elizabeth. Elizabeth encourages Emily to follow her heart, shadowing local businesses while she comes up with her own ideas.

Henry says he wants to see it “all” go away – the trespassing, the lawsuits, the Martell ranch. At the hazelnut dinner, Mike tells Mei he’s taking her to Niagara Falls for a redo honeymoon. Nathan tells Allie he defended her to McGinty, which means a great deal. Bill tells them all charges have been dropped, all thanks to Oliver’s evidence. Georgie finds Rosemary to thank her for her help with the Garrison case. Rosemary also tells her it was all “by the book,” with Bill describing her previous idea as the “DiMarco maneuver.”

Georgie tries to get Bill to come with her, but he refuses. She says the fact Bill treats women with such respect is “one of the reasons I… felt the way I did. The way I do.” As Georgie says there’s a strong chance she’ll be back in town because the case is open, Bill kisses her. She wishes him goodnight, leaving in a taxi. Rosemary sees the whole thing, saying it explains how he’s been behaving.

Little Jack gets a life-threatening diagnosis

Little Jack in When Calls the Heart

The next day, Rosemary tells all this to Elizabeth. As Nathan approaches, the boys run into town to tell them Little Jack has “disappeared” into the woods while playing ball. Soon the whole town is trying to find him, with Nathan finding him collapsed in a bush. He’s still breathing, but they rush him to the hospital.

Faith wants to run tests, with Elizabeth saying he’s always hungry and thirsty. Faith tells Mei dehydration is the “best explanation,” but doesn’t want to rule out diabetes. At home, Little Jack tells Elizabeth he sometimes gets dizzy. Faith gets the results back, later meeting with Elizabeth and Nathan to tell her the worst – he does indeed have diabetes. At this stage in time, there’s no cure, leaving the pair heartbroken.
