Young Sheldon & Minecraft movie ‘sweepstakes’ collab leaves everyone confused

A Minecraft Movie just got its latest cast member – Young Sheldon. Okay, not literally, but a new ‘sweepstakes’ collab has taken the internet by storm.

Remember all those years of little Sheldon Cooper playing the first iterations of computer games in the late 80s? If he was a child prodigy in 2025, he’d definitely be playing Minecraft.

Aside from the obvious (I won’t explain the ins and outs of the game to you), the new movie is coming out in a matter of weeks… but now there’s a Big Bang to go along with it.

You might have seen an online ‘sweepstake’ doing the rounds on social media, but why on Earth are Minecraft and Young Sheldon collaborating?

Yes, the Young Sheldon Minecraft collab is real

Here’s the deal. A Minecraft Movie has teamed up for a Young Sheldon ‘sweepstakes’, giving fans the chance to win $5,000 as its grand prize. 15 more will win $500, with a further 500 movie passes up for grabs.

Fans can fill in the application form by heading to the Young Sheldon weeknights website and entering the ‘word of the day,’ with a choice of five animals to pick from. A helpful hint? Clicking any of them will bring it up.

According to the form, you can also Text the Word once per day to 55225 for an additional entry. The sweepstakes run from March 17 to April 4.

You might be wondering what the connection to the genius Cooper is here. Unless IMDb has us completely fooled, Sheldon and his Meemaw won’t be along to fight cave demons in the actual movie (IYKYK). Instead, the origins of what Young Sheldon Weeknights actually is isn’t too clear.

The contest’s T&Cs and privacy policy link back to Warner Bros, with the logo slapped on the site for good measure. But no official channels have promoted the collab (Young Sheldon is a CBS creation, remember). Regardless, everyone’s confused.

One fan posted on X/Twitter: “The f**k Young Sheldon gotta do with this,” with a second agreeing “What? I don’t understand the point.”

“He’s gonna say something stupid like ‘blockzinga’ or something,” a third weighed in.

This isn’t the first time Young Sheldon and Minecraft have crossed paths. Skins of the entire Cooper family are available in the game, with fans already creating an in-game Medford long before the movie came along.

A special shoutout goes to the Minecraft ‘Mighty Man’ intro you can see above. The attention to detail is second to none (and take that from someone who’s watched hours of this show).
