With the Legend of Zelda getting a feature film, fans are keen on other Nintendo properties getting the Hollywood treatment — and one YouTuber thinks he has what it takes to bring Metroid to the silver screen.

If you’ve spent any amount of time on the film side of the internet, you’ve probably heard of Chris Stuckmann. If you haven’t, he’s a YouTuber with over 2 million subscribers known for his videos critiquing movies, and has been on the platform for over 10 years.

He’s more than a content creator, though; instead of just talking about films, he now makes them himself, with his first flick ‘Shelby Oaks’ hitting the big screen in October this year.

Having brought his own project to life to solid reviews at various film festivals (we at Dexerto found it sufficiently scary), Struckmann is confident that he can translate Nintendo’s beloved sci-fi game series ‘Metroid’ into a moving picture that will leave die-hard fans happy.

With Metroid Prime 4 on the horizon and Nintendo making film adaptations of several of its IPs, one filmmaker believes he has what it takes to bring Metroid to life.

Chris Stuckmann says making Metroid movie is his ‘dream’

Stuckmann discussed the idea during an interview with Collider in September. While he’s more keen to work on his own personal stories, he’d love to get behind the camera for a Metroid movie.

“I wouldn’t close the door on anything,” he began. “I’m just so excited to make movies and be behind the camera. I would love to make more original movies, first and foremost, I think, is my ultimate goal.

“If I had to pick a franchise, Metroid. Metroid is my dream, and it’s not a thing that exists currently as a movie, but the idea of directing a Metroid film would be absolutely incredible. I’ve got Samus on my arm right here,” he continued, referencing one of his tattoos.

“That whole world means so much to me. The lore is so deep and rich, and I love her as a character. But Nintendo is Nintendo, and they’re going to get somebody who’s done a million CGI movies before. But I would love to do a Metroid movie.”

Chris Stuckmann has evolved from a YouTube film critic to a film maker, with his first movie gracing theaters this October.

Over the last few years, several high-profile video game franchises have been brought to the big screen, such as the Minecraft Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Detective Pikachu, to name a few.

With Nintendo already working on the Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the forthcoming Legend of Zelda adaptation, it’s clear that they’re focused on expanding their brand to Hollywood — and a Metroid movie could be next on their list.

Even Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the film trilogy, says a Super Smash Bros movie is getting closer to happening, and no doubt Samus would be a welcome addition.

For now, not much else is known about Nintendo’s plans for the future of their IPs in terms of films, but at least the next Metroid game is set to release in December 2025.

Stuckmann’s discussion got us thinking, though — who would you cast to play Samus in a live-action Metroid movie?
