ExtraEmily was banned from Twitch after driving through a red light and streaming the whole thing. She was banned from the platform after the clip went viral, but only for 24 hours.

After ExtraEmily went viral for driving through an intersection without stopping for the light, she was served a Twitch ban for violating the terms of service on the platform.

ExtraEmily’s confirmed she was only banned for a day, with her saying that she plans to return to streaming soon, and indeed, on April 14, her account was reinstated

ExtraEmily hit with short ban from Twitch

The subject of driving and streaming is a hot one on Twitch, with several large streamers broadcasting themselves reading chat on their phones or moving cameras around while driving.

Laws vary from place to place, but hands-free phone use is legal as long as you’re not texting while driving in the vast majority of states in the U.S.

FaZe Lacy came under scrutiny for reading chat while driving, with his mods deleting clips of it. But, depending on the interpretation of road law, Lacy wasn’t doing anything illegal even if it could be considered irresponsible.

Twitch’s TOS also reads as follows: “You may not show or promote dangerous or distracted driving, including using a phone while driving and driving under the influence,” with it not being clear if “using” your phone refers to looking at it or physically holding it. Again, this is up to interpretation.

ExtraEmily Discord announcement message

ExtraEmoly addressed the ban in a message to her fans on Discord, but also revealed that she’d be back on Monday or Tuesday, as she’d be able to start streaming again a day after her ban.
