Modes explained
Battlefield 6 will launch with three main modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Portal.
Campaign
Battlefield 6 is set in 2027, with the world on the brink of chaos. A high-profile assassination shocks the world, while major European nations take the radical decision to leave NATO. With the United States and its allies struggling to contain the fall, the private military corporation PAX ARMATA is poised to fill the vacuum left by the now-collapsing NATO, and it has deep pockets, high-tech equipment, and a willingness to cross lines to do so.
The news that the game is set to launch with a Campaign is welcome, considering Battlefield 2042 released without one.
Multiplayer
In addition to the Campaign, Battlefield 6’s multiplayer features six game modes, offering combat on an epic scale across vast maps, as well as close-quarters action.
Mode | Description |

Conquest | Conquest is widely seen as Battlefield's "main" mode. Two teams start on opposite sides of a huge map and battle for control of points across the landscape. Teams start with reinforcement, or respawn, tickets, which are depleted when a teammate has to get back into the game, or when they lose a control point. The team that runs out of tickets, or whoever has the fewest tickets at the time limit, lose Conquest. |
Breakthrough | Breakthrough divides the map into zones, each with one to three control points inside. Attackers need to try and take control of these points to control the zone, while defenders need to stop the advancement of the attackers. |
Rush | The lobby is divided into two teams: Attackers, who have a limited number of respawn tickets, and defenders, who have unlimited respawns. Two M-COM Stations have been placed at bases on the map, and attackers need to destroy them with explosive charges. |
King of the Hill | Call of Duty players familiar with Hardpoint will recognize King of the Hill. A neutral zone is placed on the map, with both teams fighting to control it, earning points for the amount of time they can keep the enemy team out. |
Domination | Three neutral zones are placed on the map, with teams fighting to control them. Teams earn points for every second they remain in charge of these flags. |
Payload | Overwatch fans will know Payload as Escort. The attacking team must escort the Payload across the map, while the defending team needs to try and push it back. |
Portal
The final mode included in Battlefield 6 at launch is Portal. This is essentially a custom map-maker, allowing players to design their own locations and game modes featuring custom rule-sets.
If you don’t fancy yourself as a game designer, you can find and play custom modes created by others. Even better, you’ll be able to earn XP and progress your Career Rank through Portal modes.
