Portal mode explained

The Portal mode returns in Battlefield 6, giving players full control over every aspect of the game to create their own custom game modes, maps, and more.

How Portal works

Portal will be a separate mode in Battlefield 6 alongside campaign and multiplayer. Once you select the mode, you’ll be presented with a server browser featuring a filter, where you can choose a featured experience or search for something specific.

Or, you can create your own server with all the maps, modes, and rules you want.

These Portal servers can also be persistent, so they won’t just disappear when everyone logs off, letting certain experiences attract a real community.

What can you make?

This sandbox mode lets you create anything you want by customizing the rules, UI, camera angles, and AI behavior. The examples the devs gave included a horde mode, a top-down 2D shooter, and jet races.

Everything in Battlefield 6 can be used and customized, and it’ll keep growing with seasonal updates.

You’ll also be able to edit maps in Portal, potentially making your favorite maps from past Battlefield games, other franchises, or even real-life locations. If you can think it up, you’ll probably be able to make it in Portal.

How does XP work?

You’ll get full XP if you play a Verified Community Experience. These won’t stray too far from the normal game, but allow for some customization, such as Hardcore, closed weapons, or only select maps on rotation.

Once custom experiences start to stray further from the standard modes, XP will be limited. You’ll still get something for your time, but it’ll be capped to prevent XP farm servers from letting players fly through the ranks with minimal effort (although they’ll probably still exist).

How to build a Portal server

You can create your own Portal experience in the web creator, which you can access through the Battlefield website. This gives you tons of tools to create your own maps and modes.

Once you’re finished, you can save your experience, enter the experience code in-game, and you’re good to go.
