Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

How to enable TPM 2.0 & Secure Boot

At the launch of Black Ops 7 on November 14, both TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot must be enabled to play Call of Duty. While you don’t have to have them enabled yet, a pop-up will warn you when you launch Black Ops 6 or Warzone.

Enabling the settings can be quite daunting as it requires you to go into your BIOS, so here’s everything you need to know.

How to enable TPM 2.0

Since enabling TPM 2.0 is done through the BIOS, it’s important to get it right, or something could go wrong with your PC. We recommend you check out your motherboard manufacturer’s official instructions, but here’s an overview:

  • Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and search for Change Advanced Startup Options.
  • Look for Advanced startup and hit Restart now. Your computer will restart into Advanced Startup.
Advanced Startup Secure Boot
  • Select Advanced options.
  • Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
Secure Boot Battlefield 6
  • Head to a tab such as Advanced, Security, or Trusted Computing.
    • Intel: Enable Intel PTT or Security Device Support.
    • AMD: Enable AMD CPU fTPM.
  • Hit save and exit.

How to check if TPM 2.0 is enabled

  1. Press the Windows key and R to bring up the Run dialog box.
  2. Search for tpm.msc.
  3. Look for “The TPM is ready for use” under the Status section – if you see it, you’re all good to go!
  4. If it says “Compatible TPM cannot be found” then it either hasn’t been enabled, or your motherboard doesn’t support it.

How to enable Secure Boot

As with TPM 2.0, enabling Secure Boot incorrectly can cause lots of different issues. So, you should visit your manufacturer’s website for official instructions, but here are the basic steps:

  • Hit the Windows Key on your keyboard and search for Change Advanced Startup Options.
  • Select Restart now next to Advanced startup. Your computer will restart into Advanced Startup.
Advanced Startup Secure Boot
  • Select Advanced options.
  • Select UEFI Firmware Settings.

  • This will enter your BIOS.
  • Navigate to the Boot tab.

    • Enable Secure Boot State if it’s Disabled.
    • Hit Save and Exit (or equivalent).

It’s worth bearing in mind that each motherboard manufacturer’s BIOS will look slightly different, so if you’re struggling, refer to the official instructions.

How to check if Secure Boot is enabled

    1. Select the WindowsKey + R to open the Run dialog box.
    2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
    3. From the System Information window, select System Summary.
    4. Scroll down to find these values:
      • BIOS Mode value should be UEFI
      • Secure Boot State value should be On.
How to check your Secure Boot Battlefield 6
    • If Secure Boot State is Off, check the steps above to enable it.
    • If Secure Boot State is Unsupported, check with your motherboard manufacturer’s specification sheet or manual to see if Secure Boot is supported.

Why do you have to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot?

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are Activision’s next steps towards solving the cheating issue in Call of Duty. Battlefield 6 announced the features would be mandatory, then CoD followed suit.

    In Activision’s words:

“TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) is an industry-standard, hardware-based security feature built onto CPUs or motherboards that verifies the PC’s boot process has not been tampered with. Secure Boot makes sure a PC can only load trusted software when Windows starts.”

Together, these features should make it harder for cheats to be used in Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
