How to avoid the Abrupt Retirement Unexpected Event in Career Mode

New to EA FC 26 are ‘Unexpected Events’ and ‘Decision Points’, which add additional narrative layers to your Career Mode saves, but one of the most devastating is Sudden Retirement.

This has the potential to trigger when a player suffers an injury, potentially ending their career prematurely. As a result, this can leave you without a star player or force you to dip into the transfer market when a wonderkid can no longer fulfill their potential.

This particular Unexpected Event can feel almost as cruel as it can in real life, but you can avoid it – albeit unrealistically.

How to avoid Sudden Retirement

The solution to avoid Sudden Retirement is to save the game often, usually after every match.

  1. Save your Career Mode after each match
  2. See the Sudden Retirement notification appear
  3. Close your game
  4. Turn EA FC 26 back on
  5. Return to your Career Mode

Doing so gives you a chance to roll back the save to prior to the injury being suffered, giving you a fresh chance to avoid the damage being done on the pitch. If the injury happens on international duty, you’ll be able to revert to a prior save before it happened, too.

It’s not a particularly realistic remedy, but if you’re concerned about being without your favorite player, it’s worth a try to turn back time.
