How to renew player contracts in EA FC 26 Career Mode

contract renewals ea fc 26 career mode

In the past, managers in Career Mode will have been able to simply open up their Squad window, scroll to a player, and secure a player’s signature for a new long-term deal. However, in EA FC 26, player power has arrived.

How to extend a player’s contract

This year, it’s up to the players as to whether they are in favor of renewing with your team, rather than the club having the final say.

So, here’s the new process you need to follow – starting with player engagement in messages to the manager:

  1. Monitor Player Willingness
Players will no longer be automatically open to renewing their contracts at any time. Instead, they will reach out when they are ready to begin discussions. Keep an eye on player chat notifications to know when a player is open for negotiation.
  2. Initiate Renewal Talks
Once a player expresses interest, start the contract renewal process. Navigate to the player’s profile and select Renew Contract. You can then propose new terms such as salary, contract length, and any performance-related bonuses.
  3. Negotiate Terms
Some players may request higher wages or specific incentives. Negotiation is key to ensuring both the player and the club benefit. If the player is particularly valuable, you might need to meet their demands to avoid losing them.
  4. Consider Timing Carefully
Players generally give sufficient notice before their contract expires. This window allows you to secure a deal or plan for potential replacements. Don’t wait too long, as AI clubs may aggressively approach players in the final six months of their contract.
  5. Finalize the Contract
Once an agreement is reached, confirm the contract and ensure it is logged in your squad management system. This keeps your team stable and avoids losing key players on free transfers.

How Renewals Have Changed in FC 26

EA FC 26 introduces several key updates to contract renewals:

  • Player-Driven Initiatives: Players now decide when they are open to renewal talks rather than being available at any time.
  • Unwilling Players: Some players may choose not to renew because they want to pursue other opportunities. Clubs must plan accordingly and may need to start scouting replacements early.
  • More Aggressive AI Behavior: AI clubs are now more proactive in approaching players in the last six months of their contract, reducing the chances of losing valuable players on free transfers.
  • Age Management: Players can no longer extend their careers indefinitely by repeatedly renewing contracts past the age of 50.

Example: Antoine Griezmann may express happiness at the club and a willingness to discuss a new contract. Acting promptly ensures you retain key talent while balancing wage budgets and long-term planning.
