YouTube superstar Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson has touched on the changes to his videos over the years, describing one of his newest uploads as “a good representation of new MrBeast content.”
Reinventing yourself as a content creator when you’ve become known for one style of video or post can be quite difficult. Your audience might not like the shift and that success might drop off.
In the case of MrBeast, his videos have always involved some sort of money aspect. He started off by challenging his friends to face their fears in order to win cash, but has expanded into even bigger videos over the years.
His videos have gotten longer in parts, including more storytelling and emotions, but the money side of things is still there.
MrBeast describes changes to his new YouTube videos
After uploading his newest video – titled Survive 30 days chained to your ex, win $250,000 – the YouTuber was praised by some fans for the noticeable shift in video direction.
“It’s crazy to see how much the creator space has evolved. 3 years ago @MrBeast wouldn’t have done this. Back then, spectacle was king. This video would’ve been 5 mins long and have still flopped. Just goes to show that social media as a whole is shifting from spectacle-based -> story story-based. Stories = growth. It’s that simple,” one posted on X (formerly Twitter.)
That prompted a response from Jimmy. “Yup, this video is a good representation of new MrBeast content. Less screaming, slower, more story, emotion, etc,” he replied.
Some noted that the shift has made videos more “binge-able,” while others pointed out that he doesn’t have to be on-screen all the time to keep viewers interested.
“So from scripted comedy, we’re now going for scripted dramas?” one added.
Donaldson has still done plenty of spectacle-based content too, with his ‘World’s Fastest Car vs Cheetah’ video hitting 162m views.
